Skills & Specialties

In 1996, Dr. Long trained at the London Gynecology and Fertility Centre to learn the techniques of testicular sperm aspiration (TESA), which is a procedure used for male factor infertility. TESA is a nonsurgical, office-based procedure that aspirates a patient's semen when there is a blockage or obstruction of the vas deferens. The TESA technique and in vitro fertilization have helped many couples achieve a pregnancy throughout his career. He is also highly skilled in ovulation induction, third-party reproduction with donor egg/sperm, intrauterine insemination (IUI), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). Dr. Long has medical privileges at Brookwood Medical Center, St. Vincent's Birmingham, and the Grandview Medical Center.

Education

Originally from Louisiana, Dr. Long received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1984. He was selected for a residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1988. In 1990, he completed his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. This provided Dr. Long with extensive training in video laser endoscopy, microsurgery, and advanced reproductive techniques.
